WHAT YOU GET

A comfortable, versatile, everyday compression tight that has the technology behind it from one of the industry leaders in compression apparel.

WHAT WE'D LIKE TO SEE

It would be nice if the tights would hold their original elasticity after multiple uses without washing.

WHAT WE THINK

If you were going to buy only one piece of compression apparel, this should be your choice. This is the most functional compression garment we have experienced.

Detailed Review

Durability
With over 7 months of use on the Skins RY400, we have been very please with the quality of this product. Skins products come with a 1 Year Warranty (from the date purchased), which is very reassuring. They use a Memory MX fabric, which according to the Skins website, contains a unique high stretch elastomeric yarn that returns to its original shape no matter how much stress you put it under. We would agree with this to a point. After washing, the RY400s are as good as new. However, if you sleep in them for several nights, you will notice they do "loosen" up a bit leaving you with that hunger for a tad more compression.

Sizing
Skins takes sizing very seriously and therefore offers a wide range of sizing. (XS,SS,S,MS,M,ML,LS,L,LL.XL,XLL.XXL,XXLL) Skins uses a specific size chart for their products based on your body mass index (your height to weight ratio). You can see the detailed fit guide from Skins below. We will continue with our opinion on compression sizing and say that you should go one size down from the recommended size if you are comfortable with compression clothing. If you are concerned about comfort or the tights being too "tight" (hmmm), then go with the recommended size.

Compression
All compression garments should have a mmHg measurement. mmHg is a mercury millimeter system for measuring compression force. The higher the number, the more compression you get. The RY400 Long Tights use a pressure rating between 19 and 22mmHg at the base of the mid calf and 9-11mmHg at the hip/waist. When speaking with a representative from Skins, we were told

"The levels of compression are designed specifically to maximize venous blood flow in post-exercise recovery. In the development of the RY400 product, the SKINS research team experimented with varying levels of compression throughout the entire range of stage I-IV medical classifications. Their research found maximal increases in venous blood flow using the specific compression mapping engineered into the RY400 product. In other words - research showed that *more* compression is not necessarily *better* compression."

The above is described as Dynamic Gradient Compression which allows for different compression levels amongst the different muscle groups. When you put the RY400 on for the first time, you will definitely feel the compression, but it is at a level that can be worn comfortably for long durations.

Comfort
These are hands down some of most comfortable compression tights available. You can do anything (uhm... almost), in these tights. They are the perfect material to wear under your casual clothes for long drives, flights, running errands, or just chilling out. Notice the "under your clothes" statement. Please do the TriBomb staff a favor and always wear something over these or any compression apparel, no one needs to see what your working with under there. The RY400 has a UV protection of 50+, but we are begging that you don't take advantage of this feature. Ok, back on track now. The Skins RY400 is so comfortable because of the moisture wicking fabric that keeps you cool and dry, even in warmer temps. The fabric has a permanent antimicrobial treatment that helps discourage bacteria which essentially means they stay cleaner and "stank free" longer. This feature does allow for wearing multiple times between washes. However, we recommend washing frequently as they seem to return to like-new form afterwards.

Price Range
The Skins RY400 are in line with most compression apparel, which is all pretty pricey. However, the versatility of these tights makes them well worth the price tag.

TriBomb Bottom Line
If anyone asks us for advice on recovery compression apparel, we will quickly recommend the Skins RY400 as our choice for their first item. The comfort of these tights makes it easy to wear them almost all the time, which means you have more time to recover. They are a definite must have for your recovery apparel supply closet.
